Cheese Stuffed Onion Rings

Cheese stuffed onion rings are basically, a deep-fried snack recipe prepared from rings of onions. Onions are stuffed with grated mozzarella cheese mixed with a mashed boiled potato.

  • 1 onion, white / brown

  • ½ cup mozzarella or cheddar cheese, grated

  • 1 potato, boiled

  • ¾ tsp kashmiri chilli powder

  • ½ tsp chaat masala

  • salt to taste

  • 1 cup bread crumbs

  • 2 tbsp maida / all-purpose flour / plain flour

  • 2 tbsp corn flour

  • ¼ cup water

  • oil for deep frying


  • Aloo – Cheese Stuffing:
  • In a large mixing bowl take grated cheese.
  • Further, to that add boiled potatoes. Mash well.
  • Also add chilli powder, chaat masala and salt.
  • Mix well and mash the potatoes. Keep aside.
  • Onion Rings Recipe:
  • Firstly, take medium / large sized onions and cut to rings.
  • Further, separate the onion slices into rings, and set aside.
  • Now take 2 onion rings of one larger size and one smaller size.
  • Further, in between stuff the prepared aloo-cheese stuffing.
  • Now dip it into the corn flour-maida paste and coat well. To prepare corn flour-maida paste, mix 2 tbsp of maida and 2 tbsp corn flour along with water. Mix well to form a lump free batter.
  • Then coat with bread crumbs. Spread the bread crumbs on a plate to ease the process. Also hard tap to remove excess crumbs.
  • Repeat dipping in maida-corn paste and breadcrumbs again. Double coating is very important, else there is a chance of melting out cheese while deep frying.
  • Now freeze the coated onion rings in freezer for 15-30 minutes. This is the extra precaution for cheese not melting out.
  • Heat oil. Meanwhile, dust the excess bread crumbs. Place them carefully in the medium hot oil.
  • Fry them till they turn golden brown.
  • Drain and place on an absorbent paper.
  • Finally, serve cheesy stuffed onion rings hot with tomato ketchup or as it is.


  • Firstly, use large onions else it’s difficult to stuff.
    Furthermore, do not over stuff the stuffing as there is high chance of cheese to melt out and spoil oil.
    Also, make sure to coat the onion rings well with thick paste of corn-maida paste.
    Additionally, use breadcrumbs for best crispy golden brown.
    Finally, stuffing is optional. Coat with maida-corn paste and cover with bread crumbs. Later deep fry to golden brown.
